Call To Earth Day 2023
CNN launched Call to Earth Day in 2021 to inspire people to care for the environment and learn about our planet’s challenges. This year, the event took place on November 28 and had the theme of “Our Shared Home,” emphasizing the importance of living in harmony with nature and wildlife.
More than 200,000 people participated in the event, including 235 schools worldwide. They showed their creativity and commitment by doing various projects to raise awareness and take action for the environment. Here are some examples of what they did:
Europe
In Poland, The International School of Krakow students made an ECOllage out of trash they collected from a nearby forest. They said their artwork was a way to show their dedication to making the world a better place.
In Kosovo, students from the Finnish School of Kosovo reused glass jars they found as waste and painted them to make beautiful artworks. They wanted to spread the message of reusing and recycling.
Middle East
In Lebanon, students from Makassed Islamic High School did several projects, such as making a giant poster from plastic bottle lids and composting food scraps.
Africa
In Morocco, students from Greenwood School went to Bouskoura Forest and picked up trash with gloves and bags.
In Nigeria, students from Corona School Ikoyi made a video to educate people about sustainable living and upcycling. They said that our choices significantly impact our homes and habitats.
Asia
In India, students from CHIREC International School made a news report-style video to explore how to solve the problem of water scarcity in rural areas.
In Thailand, students from the Mangrove and Gardening Club at United World College collected mangrove seeds for their school’s nursery. They plan to grow them and plant them on the coast.
Latin America
In Colombia, fifth-grade students from the New Cambridge School used plastic pollution as their topic for Call to Earth Day. They made posters and presentations to inform people about the issue.
In Chile, students from Dualastair School came up with innovative ways to recycle plastic waste. They made helpful items such as bags, mats, and baskets.
North America
In Florida, students from Cornerstone Learning Community planted wiregrass seeds on Call to Earth Day. They helped to restore the native ecosystem of wiregrass. They started this project in 2022 when they collected over a million seeds.
