Elon Musk Slams Trump’s Senate Megabill as ‘Insane’

Elon Musk criticizes Donald Trump's newly presented domestic bill

On June 28, 2025, Elon Musk expressed a critical attack on a massive Senate domestic policy bill, labeling it “utterly insane” and “dangerous.” The bill, proposed by President Donald Trump, includes provisions to raise taxes on solar, battery, geothermal, wind, and nuclear energy projects, which would directly affect Tesla’s energy division. As a result, this will produce solar photovoltaics and battery storage systems.

Musk warned that the ruling would “destroy millions of jobs in America” and cause “massive strategic penalty,” especially by selecting outdated industries like coal with new support for steel production. His comments on X came hours before a critical Senate vote, intensifying his ongoing feud with Trump.

Musk’s criticism marks a severe escalation in his split with Trump, whom he previously supported with over $250 million in campaign donations and by leading the contentious Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Earlier in June, Musk called the bill a “disgusting abomination” and encouraged lawmakers to “KILL the BILL,” beginning a public dispute. Trump punished by threatening to review government contracts with Musk’s companies, leading to a 14% plunge in Tesla’s stock in a single day.

Musk later expressed regret for some of his posts and endorsed Trump’s immigration policies, but his renewed criticism reignited tensions.

Bill’s Impact on Clean Energy

The Senate bill, described by Trump as a “great, attractive bill,” aims to bolster traditional industries but has drawn anger for taxing clean energy sectors critical to Tesla and other innovators. Musk said it will prioritize “industries of the past” while “severely damaging industries of the future.” The integration of coal support for steel production has flared debates arguing it undermines environmental progress. The bill’s passage could reshape the energy sector, hiding growth in renewables through Tesla’s solar and battery industries.

Tesla supporters from the Takedown movement sought to expose Elon Musk for his connections to Trump and his support for the far-right AfD party in Germany. This debate changed politics and ideas. The discussion is still ongoing after Musk’s apology. However, his viewpoint shows the ongoing conflicts between his supporters and rivals.
